3 Weeks?? Yikes!

Hard to believe it's been three weeks since my last post on here, but I guess it has been. A lot has been happening in that time.

First of all, let's start with the Zine. It never occured to me that a large number of literary people had no idea what a Zine was until confusion popped up in conversation. For those of you who don't know, Zines are little home made things either 1/2 page size or 1/4 page size that are cut and pasted and glued together and then Xeroxed like mad to make copies. (Yes, that's the spazzy answer, but that's pretty much what they are.)

Anyway, a large following for Zines has cropped up in recent years and a number of people - myself included - actually like to collect them. They're generally filled with stories and poetry and essays and they're really creative and interesting.

With the confusion thing in mind, I decided that I needed to give the Zine a different name than "Ink Monkey" without going too far out there. Thus, I have chosen to title it "Ink Monkey Presents: Blots" - I figured little short snippets of writing needed a little small inky name.

Now that I said all of that, I can get onto info about Blots itself. I finished the first two copies, had 100 copies made, and then spent about five hours cutting, folding, stacking, etc... so that I could get them assembled. Remember, this is a pretty low budget operation, so I don't exactly have an intern I can push that job off on.

After all that was done, I got the package out for The Sampler, and I have the package ready to go for GORILLAmART. The really good news is that I have just a very small quantity left after I distribute the contributors copies.

*phew* Just talking about it makes me tired!

As for the magazine itself, I have finally made a few layout decisions that were holding me up. I should be able to finish the mag in just a couple hours time now, and have it ready to go to press at exactly the right moment.

The excitement is likely to kill me, but fear not. I shall wait until after issue 1 hits the stands to die of the shock. LOL!

If you want to contribute to future issues of Ink Monkey Mag or Blots, all the guidelines are on the website!
